“Those who knew him will remember that he devoted his life to the ministry of Sacred Music in Mississippi. He was fervent about it. Several times he was approached about joining the SBC Music Department in Nashville, Tenn. B.B. McKinney, who headed that department for so many years, had taught my father at Southwestern, and was his mentor and then his close friend. But my father always declined the invitation without hesitation. ‘My people are in the churches of Mississippi,’ he would say. ‘My heart is there.’”
